Recognition of Prior Learning - Centre for International Health students only

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) may be awarded to suitably qualified applicants who have extensive (>6 months) work experience in relevant areas or have successfully completed relevant postgraduate units. Some examples of relevant work experience include international health field experience as volunteers/working for NGOs or in remote/Aboriginal communities in Australia.

We encourage you to apply for RPL at the commencement of your course, to ensure that it is approved well before you graduate and to minimise the likelihood of undertaking a unit for which RPL could have been awarded.

For advice regarding your individual RPL needs, please contact Dr BK Tan, Postgraduate Program Coordinator, by email bk.tan@curtin.edu.au.

To apply for RPL you will need to include the following documentation in your application:

  • Application for Recognition of Prior Learning (downloadable from the link below)
  • A current curriculum vitae
  • If applicable, certified copies of transcripts/certificates (unit outcomes of postgraduate units completed must be included if you are applying for a specific unit exemption)
  • If applicable, examples of work performed and any other appropriate evidence that you consider will support your application (this documentation must clearly address the unit outcomes if you are applying for a specific unit exemption)

The Centre processes RPL applications twice yearly in March and September. Recommended applications are then forwarded to the RPL department within Student Central for final approval and uploading to the Student One database (up to a 6-week turnaround). Once this has occurred a letter will be sent to you by Student Central to confirm what RPL has been approved.

You can also check progress by accessing e-Student (log-in to OASIS and pick the My Record tab) which will show any RPL granted - see your Study Plan Details (help available here). Please note, e-Student will only show details once the RPL has been officially approved.

Download the Recognition of Prior Learning application form here*, print it and then return the completed form with your documentation to:
